iPhone & XT FTW (Update - now with screens)

Want to use your shiny iPhone with XT?

You can! Voice, text and (possibly) data will work by just pluggin in your SIM! APN settings may need to be added to the device to enable data - you can find them here!

Navigate your way to Geekzone and follow the instructions for loading carrier settings onto your iPhone - props to nzbullet for sharing this information!
See below for some of the added functionality for loading carrier settings onto the iPhone.

Why does the iPhone work better on XT some of you may ask?

Coverage
- XT is 850MHz 3G coverage to 97% of where New Zealanders live and work.
Vodafone's 2100MHz 3G coverage to only 70%.

Check out the Apple website for the Tech Specs of the iPhone.

Speed
- Its no secret that Telecoms XT network has crazy fast data speeds. Especially compared to Vodafones.
Don't believe me?
Check the links for real experiences consumers have provided online.

(Note - Data speeds are dependent on many different factors such as the HSDPA and HSUPA categories of a device, network capability GPRS, EDGE, HSPA etc...)

- If you have an iPhone and want to sign up you can find more detail on the Telecom website!

Please post below for any feedback or any other information you would like to see...

P.S - FTW is For The Win!

The Sony Ericsson W995a

So where to begin. First of all you can pick this device up from a Telecom Retail store for $999 outright. A THOUSAND bucks you’re screaming? Well - let me just point out a few things that may change your mind.

First of all I have the w995a. The a isn’t really required - however it just tells you that it is the 850/1900 3G model.

Features:

- w995.
W for Walkman. This is multimedia powerhouse - with approx. 4GB on board and a further 8GB m2 memory card with the device that's a lot of music, videos and photos. A 3.5mm jack and Bluetooth capability for audio.

- 8.1 MP Camera.
That's right - Eight point one megapixel camera. This thing is amazing - the video and photo quality is great. With face detection, flash, macro function, B&W, sepia, negative and solarise modes, self timer and different white balance modes this camera will suit most needs for any snapper. Short of manual functions (it’s a phone!) the camera capabilities are amazing!

- Email.
Yes pop3 email and even Microsoft Exchange support in my experience one of the easiest phones to setup your exchange email. Allowing email, calendar and contact support!

- Form-factor.
A slide phone with a 2.6" 240 x 320 screen and accelerometer that adjusts to landscape or portrait its feels like a very solid and durable phone.
Media, volume and camera shortcut buttons on the right and Walkman key on the left.
On the top we have the 3.5mm jack point as well as a silver clip that you use as a stand to place the phone on a flat surface and watch movies in landscape mode.
Standard 12 key keypad is surprisingly easy to use and feels good when texting.

- Software.
Let me just list this:

YouTube app
Games
Location Services (Google Maps, Navigation, Tracker and status info)
Track ID
Video, Music and Photo DJ
Standard organiser functionality - Alarm, calendar, timer, stopwatch, light (from flash), calculator, tasks
Video call capable
WiFi - Also allows media sharing over DLNA.
(Basically - connect to your WiFi network at home, turn on network sharing on your phone and watch your media from your phone on your TV - through your PS3!)

Themes
You can download themes for your 995 however I have linked 3 themes here for you to download straight to your PC of handset.

Spongebob Theme
